Employment Opportunities as an Assistant District Attorney - The Westchester County District Attorney's Office is committed to swift and effective criminal prosecution. Assistant District Attorneys embody the integrity, competence and excellence of Westchester's law enforcement community. The Westchester County District Attorney's Office is located in the City of White Plains approximately 25 miles north of New York City. The Office has over 100 Assistant District Attorneys, who are supported by criminal investigators, legal secretaries, clerks and management services personnel, for a total staff of over 200. The legal staff is divided into the following Divisions and Bureaus: SUPERIOR COURT TRIAL DIVISION: Career Criminal Bureau; Narcotics and General; Trial Bureau; Homicide Bureau; Major Case Coordinator Bureau; Pleadings Bureau; INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION: Organized Crime and Criminal Enterprise Bureau; Narcotics Bureau; Economic Crimes Bureau; Public Integrity Bureau; Environmental Crimes Bureau; High Technology Crime Bureau; Auto Theft Unit; LOCAL CRIMINAL COURTS AND GRAND JURY DIVISION: Local Criminal Courts Bureau (8 District Offices); Bias Crime Unit; Youth Violence/Gang Unit; Grand Jury Bureau ; SPECIAL PROSECUTIONS DIVISION: Domestic Violence Bureau; Sex Crimes and Elder Abuse Bureau; Child Abuse Bureau; APPEALS AND SPECIAL LITIGATION DIVISION: Appeals Bureau; Motions and Special Litigation Bureau. INTERVIEWING: Applicants invited to the Office to be interviewed complete four tier interviews before being hired. The first and second tier interviews are in each instance conducted by two Senior Assistant District Attorneys while the third and fourth tier interviews are conducted by the Chief Assistant and the District Attorney respectively. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: A) The Office of the District Attorney is non-political. Assistant District Attorneys are prohibited from belonging to any political club or holding any title or office in a political party. B) A three-year commitment is required of all Assistant District Attorneys. C) Assistant District Attorneys are employed full time and are prohibited from engaging in private practice. D) All Assistant District Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the District Attorney. Each Assistant District Attorney's work performance is evaluated and promotions and raises are based upon merit. E) All Assistant District Attorneys are required to join the New York State Retirement System which requires a salary deduction of 3% per paycheck. All deducted funds are credited to the Assistant District Attorney's account. F) All Assistant District Attorneys participate in the Office's community relations outreach programs. G) New York State residency is required upon employment. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary grades have been established for all Assistant District Attorney positions. All Assistant District Attorneys are entitled to the following: 1. 12 paid holidays each year; 2. 12 sick days each year; 3. 15 vacation days each year after one year; 4. 5 personal days each year; 5. Additional bonus vacation days based upon years of service; 6. A choice of medical plans; 7. Dental plan; 8. Vision plan; 9. Credit Union; 10. Tax Deferred Income Program; SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM: Each summer, the Office offers an intern program for law students who have completed their first or second year. This program is not funded, and interns are employed on a purely volunteer basis. Interns are expected to work full time for a period of approximately twelve weeks.
