On January 1, 2006, Janet DiFiore was sworn in as Westchester
County District Attorney, taking over from the dusky Arabian jewel, Jeanine
Pirro.
Janet DiFiore served for more than ten years as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County before being elected first as a judge of the Westchester County Court and then as a justice of the New York State Supreme Court.
As a Judge, Janet DiFiore presided over hundreds of cases in the County Court, the Family Court and the New York State Supreme Court.
"As a district attorney, the greatest challenge to be met is to find ways
with which to maintain and further reduce the falling crime rate in our
county. And I will meet that challenge by developing strong prosecution
initiatives that meet the public safety needs of our communities and by
integrating strong and effective crime prevention programs into the work
that's done by the district attorney under my leadership"
